FRAK!

Unfortunately, Battlestar Galactica is almost done. According to Katie Sackhoff (Starbuck) & Edward James Olmos (Adama), this upcoming season starting in January is to be the last season for one of my favorite shows.

Apparently it's being canceled due to overly high production costs compared to the relatively low number of viewers. This could get me started on a very long rant about the viewing choices of America, but I won't let it.

Yet another great show canceled. Although I suppose in SciFi's defense, they gave it a fair shot. Three seasons for a show like BSG is admirable, considering the ratings have never been super high. Yet another example of great writing almost being a hindrance to the success of a show. Why watch a show that you have to actually pay attention to when the Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars and American Idol are...no I said I wouldn't do this...

But I digress, it will be missed and at least the show is getting a whole season to wrap things up.

Lords of Kobol be praised and hopefully Beyond the Red Line will be finished soon!

Washing Woes

Yesterday HDW blogged about her problems with a certain department store and their customer service. It made me think of our experience there the other day.

A couple of weeks ago our dryer died. We debated a while about spending a bit more on a dryer and leaving the washing machine be (because holy crikey are they expensive). However, we finally decided to go the distance and get both.

While we were shopping, we went to a ton of places looking for information and deals. At the store mentioned above we were looking at the washing machines and the salesperson came over. My first questions was, "What is the main difference between this $1600 washer and the $800 over there?"

His answer? "Well, this one is $1600..." (that's actually a direct quote). I was actually stunned for a second. I replied with "I could see that from the price tag." and awaited more information. After a few moments of looking at each other, he finally started listing differences.

My favorite reason it's twice the cost? The hinges, that's right apparently the hinges on this machine actually, dramatic pause, allow you to open the door!!! He literally spent 5 minutes talking about the frelling hinges.

Another amazing difference? "This one is high efficiency, you use a fraction of the water and power."

"Isn't the $800 washer over there high efficiency too?", I asked.

"Well, yes." This was followed by another long moment of us looking at each other.

At this point I was done with this mental giant, but he felt he needed to explain more differences. I can't really say what they were because I had stopped listening.

Come see the stupid side of Sears...

Still better than the remakes...

Coolest geek-ness EVER...

Yep, it's the Star Wars Movie in full on ASCII code! Well, not the whole movie, but they've got a little more than half of it done. For those wondering, Han does shoot first.

Bottom line, my inner geek bows down to the creators.

Side note: I wonder if it's the ASCII code stylings of J.T. Krazinsky? Should we call the Barenaked Ladies?

2010, The year we get answers.

According to this USA Today article, Lost has an ending date!

The good news? It's a set date that the creators can work with and fit the story to - no sudden cancellations (Firefly anyone?).

The bad? It's ending in 2010. Three more seasons of 16 episodes each.

The other bad? The episodes consecutively with an eight month break between seasons - ugh.

All things considered, I think this is great news. As I said above, it means that the show shouldn't suffer from any unfinished story threads. Hopefully they'll be able to tie everything up nice and neatly. It also, hopefully, prevent any shark jumping.

I also think the executives at ABC should have a "Take a dumbass to work day" and show the execs at FOX how great shows should be handled (it's OK to give non-reality TV a chance)...

Extreme Tree Hugging

Yet another nugget found while browsing (click here)...

It's a tree that needs no direct care from the owner. The tree is planted in a system that is connected to your house. The more efficient your power use is, the more the tree flourishes. If you have an inefficient house, the tree is poisoned!!!

Poor little tree.

Nothing like using guilt to control your family's energy use.

"Well, honey I could turn the heat up, but it would kill the tree. You OK with that?"

It's like a mini ecoterrorism kit...

Toast of Turin To Go

Speaking of useless inventions, I found this...

That's right. It's a toast printer. No longer will we be forced to eat plain, boring toast.

Now, you can decorate that dull toast with a picture of the person you'd like to eat most.

I think I just found their jingle...

For the dedicated couch potato

Found these these while browsing the net.

That's right, pillow remote controls. For those to lazy to lift their arm and click a button, now you can just roll your head to change the channel!

All I have to say is the hell? I suppose you'd never have to get off the couch to look for the remote...
